Frequently asked questions
What are your hourly rates?+
Hourly rates range from $20/hr for junior developers to $45/hr for senior engineers and $55-65/hr for architects and tech leads. Rates depend on technology stack, seniority level, and engagement length. These rates are 55-65% lower than equivalent US-based developers.
Do you charge monthly or hourly?+
Both models are available. Monthly dedicated rates ($3,000-10,000/month) offer the best value for ongoing work. Hourly billing ($20-65/hr) is available for project-based work or when you need fewer than 160 hours per month. Most clients choose monthly billing for predictability.
Are there any hidden costs beyond the monthly rate?+
No. The monthly rate covers salary, benefits, equipment, office space, HR management, and Geminate's service fee. You will never receive a surprise invoice. The only additional cost is if you request specific software licenses or cloud services beyond standard development tools.
What engagement models do you offer?+
Three models: dedicated team (monthly rate, full-time developers), time-and-materials (hourly billing, flexible hours), and fixed-price (agreed deliverables and timeline). Dedicated team is most popular at 72% of engagements, followed by time-and-materials at 20%, and fixed-price at 8%.
Do you offer volume discounts for larger teams?+
Yes. Teams of 3-5 developers receive a 5% discount, teams of 6-10 receive 10%, and teams of 11+ receive a custom enterprise rate typically 12-15% below standard pricing. Discounts apply from the first month and are reflected on every invoice.
How does your pricing compare to Toptal, Turing, and Upwork?+
Geminate rates are 30-50% lower than Toptal ($60-150/hr), 20-35% lower than Turing ($40-80/hr), and comparable to Upwork mid-range ($25-50/hr) but with pre-vetting, a paid trial week, and account management included. You get agency-level support at freelance-level pricing.
What is included in the fixed-price model?+
Fixed-price projects include requirements analysis, UI/UX design, development, testing, deployment, and 30 days of post-launch bug fixes. A detailed SOW with milestones and payment schedule is agreed upfront. Change requests beyond scope are billed at your contracted hourly rate.
Is there a setup fee or onboarding cost?+
No setup fees. The paid trial week is billed at the standard monthly rate (pro-rated to 1 week). If you proceed after the trial, the trial week cost is included in the first month's invoice. If you do not proceed, you pay only for the trial week.
How do you handle billing and payments?+
Invoices are sent on the 1st of each month for the upcoming month. Payment is due within 15 days via wire transfer or ACH. We accept USD, EUR, GBP, and AED. For annual prepayment, we offer an additional 5% discount on top of any volume discounts.
Can I pause the engagement and resume later?+
Yes. You can pause an engagement with 2 weeks notice. During the pause, billing stops completely. We reserve your developer for up to 30 days at no cost. Pauses longer than 30 days may result in developer reassignment, but we guarantee a replacement within 48 hours when you resume.
What is the cost for a typical MVP?+
MVP development costs range from $15,000-40,000 depending on complexity. A basic web app MVP runs $15,000-20,000 over 6-8 weeks. A mobile app MVP costs $25,000-35,000 over 8-12 weeks. A SaaS platform MVP costs $30,000-40,000 over 10-14 weeks. All include design, development, and deployment.
Do rates change if I need a niche or rare technology?+
Rates for niche technologies like Rust, Elixir, Kotlin Multiplatform, or specialized AI/ML frameworks are 15-25% higher than standard stacks. We are transparent about this upfront. Availability for niche technologies may take 5-7 business days instead of the standard 48 hours.
How much does a full development team cost per month?+
A 3-person team (1 senior + 1 mid + 1 junior) costs $9,000-$14,000/month with a 5% volume discount. A 5-person team with PM costs $18,000-$28,000/month with a 10% discount. A 10-person team costs $35,000-$55,000/month with a 12-15% enterprise discount. All-inclusive pricing with no hidden fees.
How do your rates compare to Toptal and Turing in 2026?+
Geminate rates are 30-50% lower than Toptal ($60-$150/hr) and 20-35% lower than Turing ($40-$80/hr). Unlike Toptal, we include a paid trial week and dedicated account management at no extra cost. Unlike Turing, we match within 48 hours (not 2-3 weeks) and offer pre-built teams, not just individuals.
What is the cheapest way to build an MVP with Geminate?+
The most cost-effective MVP path: hire 1 senior full-stack developer at $5,000-$7,000/month for 3 months ($15,000-$21,000 total). This delivers a functional MVP with 8-12 screens, authentication, API, and deployment. Alternatively, a fixed-price MVP engagement starts at $15,000 with design, development, and deployment included.
